Government funding for PE and Sports Provision has been allocated to all maintained and state-funded schools with primary phase pupils, including: primary, middle, special and non-maintained special schools, academies and pupil referral units from 1st September 2013. This year, the provision has been increased due to money from the 'Sugar Tax' and a top up from the government. A typical school will now receive approximately £17000 plus an additional £10 per child.
Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport, engaging pupils in regular physical activity, increasing confidence, knowledge and skill of all teaching staff and to broaden the experience of a range of sports and activities offered, so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
At Clearwell Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of ALL children. In addition, it is considered that a PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of the children.
We aim to develop agility, physical coordination, fitness, confidence and enjoyment through PE lessons. The school can use the playground, the school garden, the village hall and the Church grounds for its PE sessions. In addition, especially in the summer months, athletics, rounders and sports day are enjoyed on the village recreation ground.
We also believe that all children should leave our school being able to swim and ride a bike to ensure they can enjoy life to its fullest. We have chosen to provide Year 5 & 6 children with 'Bikeability' sessions to help them ride a bike.
Children throughout the school have regular opportunities to engage in Forest School, and the infants have Welly Walk every week.
