Art and Design

“If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.” – Edward Hopper

The INTENT of learning Art and Design at Clearwell

Art and Design provides pupils with opportunities to develop their skills using a range of media and materials. Pupils learn the skills of drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, 3D work and digital art and are given the opportunity to explore and evaluate different creative ideas which may be linked to cross curricular topics. It is important that pupils are given opportunities to be reflective and evaluate their work, thinking about how they might make changes and keep improving. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our local area and nation.

The IMPACT of learning Art and Design at Clearwell

  • Art and Design provides our pupils with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their individual interests, thought and ideas.
  • A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
  • As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our local history, history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
