Head’s Blog – 26th March 2021

We have had an eventful week in school and the children have been superb as ever. With only a couple of days to go before Lockdown restrictions start to ease, the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be getting brighter.

Mrs Griffiths organised a fantastic reading competition which was extremely hard to judge. The children need to show us that they could read in unusual places. Unfortunately a few entries disappeared in the ether which meant that they didn’t get judged so I am publishing them on here so that they get their moment of glory. I am sure that you will agree they are fabulous; they will also still get a prize. Thank you Mrs Griffiths for organising this, I appreciate you taking the time to do it and buying the prizes. Thank you to all of the adults and children who entered.

Years three and four have been learning about teeth this week and they made some great teeth from plasticine! Practical learning in science is the way that we like to learn at Clearwell.

Willow Class – creating a rainbow in our clothes for Comic Relief

Thank you very much for the donations that we have received for Comic Relief today, we raised over £60 and I know that more people are donating straight to Comic Relief online. This is great for such a small school, thank you. We talked about how the money we donate is used and also watched a video which makes everything more real for us all. I am so proud of the children in our school, they are so inclusive and accepting and their emotional intelligence is improving constantly. Oak class were so busy today that we didn’t manage to get a photograph of them all together – sorry.

Oak class are learning all about plants and growing in science and at Clearwell we like to make science interactive, so they have been planting their own sunflower seeds and have started digging the garden ready to plant radishes and lettuce in a few weeks time.

Head’s Blog – 12th March 2021

Welcome back! It has been such a joy to hear the children learning, laughing and playing together. I am so pleased that we have welcomed back virtually our entire school community and there is some sense of normality. The children have been so enthusiastic about their learning despite a few jitters about being away from family members and having to focus on learning for the entire day. However, they have been absolutely superb and re-adjusted to school life in the building with apparent ease. We are taking the time to talk to all of the children about their feelings and have invested in a new PSHE package which focusses on wellbeing. This together with our ELSAs shows how important the mental wellbeing of members of our school community is.

We have all been getting back into routines both at home and school and establishing new ones. Mrs Griffiths has updated the Key Stage 1 library over lockdown, as well as teaching Live lessons, the lady is a machine! The children now have a library lesson once a week to share the love of reading. Here are a few photographs of them in their first session today.

Key stage two is now split into years 3/4 and years 5/6 for the majority of the week. This means that the biggest class is 17 children which means that the teacher has more time to tailor the learning to the needs of the individual, something that we pride ourselves on at Clearwell. Today, we all came together to learn about Seasonal food and do some preparation, cooking and tasting of lettuce, spring onions, spinach, potatoes, asparagus, radish and broccoli. Some of the children loved the taste of them, many trying asparagus for the first time, others felt like they were being punished! We have more photographs at school and I will endeavour to get the children to upload them onto Seesaw next week – I suspect I will need reminding!
